The kids have been playing so well lately and I am so thankful. It's been cool and rainy today and Jim was busy, so we have hung out with Mom and just stayed inside. They've played "Olympics" and even hummed the Olympic tune. They built a balance beam out of pillows and that was fun for a while. Then they decided to try "diving" into the pillows from the couch. Too bad Lola (that's Filipino for grandma and that is what they call her) was watching too closely and nixed that game. They've enjoyed watching the Olympics. I've practically kept the t.v. on all week. And I think the girl thinks that I know Michael Phelps personally since I've talked about him a lot this week. He is really amazing and was meant to swim. One night when he was awarded one of his 8 gold medals and they played "The Star Spangled Banner", she later asked when they were going to play the rodeo song again. I guess the only time she's heard it is when we go to the rodeo every February.
They played "Tracie" (she is my hairdresser) until the boy got too vicious with the spray bottle of water. They like to play "Chaz and Erin"...they get the dolls to be their kids. Chaz and Erin live in "Ho-kamo-muh City" according the boy. Today they found several toys they used to play with when they were younger. One was a little riding toy....like a car. They were taking turns driving the car. They like to tell each other how to act or pretend. In a minute, we saw the girl "driving" the car. She told the boy to stand in the middle of the rug and hold a piece of paper and say, "I'm homeless and hungry!" Mom and I busted out laughing! The girl reads everything she can and is often asking what words on signs are. She's seen the men standing at intersections holding the cardboard signs. She asked me one day what their sign said and I told her. She then said we should go buy him some food. I've done that before but never with the kids in the car. I'm too afraid. Before they went to bed tonight, I asked them if they wanted a snack, and the boy said, "Yeah! I'm hungry. And homeless!" Oh dear, I might need to break this.
They have played hard today and I figured they would go right to sleep, but it's 9:30 and they are still in their talking. I've threatened and even spanked them once. I did get the wooden spoon out and spanked the boy. I walked in and he was sitting up in bed. The wooden spoon is the most dreaded form. And I'm really mean and hit the wall or the door with it before I walk in to really scare them. Haha! Since I'm at my parents' house tonight, I was laughing when I did it, so it didn't mean that much to them. And I usually lay it on the floor right outside the door and they hate that! They both cry and want me to move it. And usually, when I move it, they are quiet. They know I mean serious business.
They are both very ready to start school. The girl will start Kindergarten five days a week (just half day though) and the boy will go to Mom's Day Out two days a week. I am excited to have a couple of mornings to myself, too!
Next weekend, I am heading to San Antonio for the Beth Moore conference and the Siesta Fiesta. I am very pumped about it! Who is going?

Okay...I was sitting here watching all of this happen and it was hilarious. Now, I'm reading it and having to squelch the giggles before I wake the little stinkers up!ha! They are hilarious! The only thing that would have made today MORE fun than it was would be to have their cousins here to play with them!! Love you!
We can't seem to pull ourselves away from the Olympics either. Every morning we complain about being tired from staying up late the night before watching.
I'm glad my hair could be of inspiration for you. It is so much easier to care for now that it's short. I love it!
I am laughing outloud about this. Your son absolutely cracks me up - "Yeah, I'm hungry! I'm homeless!" It makes me so eager and excited for all of the hilarious things that my son is going to do/say! I love it!
