So, I'm not sure if this might be TMI (too much information) for you, but I have some problems. I got an IUD in December. We were not (well, I say 'we', but it's mostly I wasn't) ready for permanent birth control; in other words, surgery. On him, not me. :) And my memory is bad so I would sometimes forget to take my birth control pill. Not just a day, either. Like two and three days in a row. Yeah, I know! Yikes! So we opted for the Mirena IUD. I won't lie...it was painful. Very. Like, I almost passed out painful.
In March, 3 months later, my problems arose. Like mini-Dante's Peaks all over my face. I have not had this bad of acne since I was pregnant with the girl. I thought I would wait it out a while and see if my hormones (or lack thereof) might balance out, but it's been three more months now and I'm still breaking out. I called my doctor and I have two options: 1) we can pull the IUD and get back on birth control, or 2) begin taking a medication called Aldactone which is a diuretic used to treat acne. First I will say that I'm not so keen on taking a medication for my acne, even though it's not a medication like Accutane or something. That stuff scares me. When I first mentioned these options to Jim and told him I didn't really want to take medicine, he just said to get back on birth control. But I was a little worried about the money we spent on the IUD, but he said, and I agreed, it's not worth the scarring on my face. So I have a decision to make.
But first, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with an IUD and if you had any acne with it...
Discuss, please.
And sorry if this was TMI for some of you.

You want TMI??? Jim - - snip, snip.
I've had a hysterectomy, so other than that, I don't have much reference!!
If you are done having a family - - twist his arm.
Take IUD out + failure to take birth control pills consistently = another grandchild!!! :)
I'm sending you an email about this :)
I think your mom has ulterior motives!!! *snicker*
My mom would love for us to adopt another baby. No, I tell you. No, no, NO!!! I love my boys. I love babies. Other people's babies. I love sleeping through the night and not changing diapers. I'm also nearly 40. So...
I have Mirena as well- for the same reasons as you. However mine was not painful when it was inserted. I love mine simply for the convenience.
I haven't had any complications or issues from the Mirena. Sorry this may not be what you wanted to hear, but I love Mirena.
Have you seen a dermatologist?
By the way~ I love Lola's comment. :)
You can also try the Nuvaring. It is a once a month vaginal insert, is not painful and its easy. That way you take out the IUD and don't have to take pills. You also fo through another "teenage acne" spell when you begin approaching 30 and it will go away in time.
